Dr. Michael Rutter is a Professor in the Department of Pediatric Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Rutter obtained his BHB in 1983 and MBChB in 1987 from the Auckland School of Medicine and Surgery in Auckland, New Zealand. Dr. Rutter obtained his Primary FRCS in 1989 and completed an accredited fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Upon receiving the American Board of Otolaryngology Board Certification, Dr. Rutter completed the USMLE II, I and III certifications. In 2012, Dr. Rutter was appointed Professor in the Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Dr. Rutter is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is a member of the New Zealand Medical Association and New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Rutter is a member of the American Society for Pediatric Otolaryngology, the Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Advances in Children and the American Bronchoesophagology Association. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a member of The Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Rutter serves on numerous administrative, academic and educational committees within the hospital as well as national and international committees.

Dr. Rutter is internationally known for his expertise in the management of pediatric aspiration, management of congenital tracheal stenosis, management of pediatric sleep apnea, management of adult airway disease and continued progress in management of complex airway disease. He has presented extensively, authored over 80 peer reviewed articles, over 30 book chapters, and holds 4 patents.
